The Jail Booking Bureau manages the intake, release, and record maintenance of approximately 28,000 prisoners each year. Working closely with state and federal agencies, the bureau oversees criminal charges, warrants, commitments, and detainees for a daily population of about 800 inmates. Operating 24/7, the bureau ensures accurate processing and coordination with courts and law enforcement partners across Utah.

What We Do

The Housing Bureau of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for safely and professionally housing inmates awaiting court hearings or serving sentences. Using a direct supervision model, staff focus on safety, accountability, and rehabilitation while maintaining a secure and humane environment. Through consistent structure and inmate programs, the bureau prepares individuals for successful reintegration into the community.

Classification

The Classification Bureau has the responsibility of providing safe and secure housing for each inmate, and to provide those programs that would maximize the opportunities that each inmate has for rehabilitation.

Disciplinary/Grievance Plan

The Disciplinary Plan is a management tool providing:

• A means of governing the conduct of inmates;
• A clear and exclusive procedures for staff members to follow for the discipline of inmates; and,
• The firm, fair and consistent application of rules and regulations.

The Utah County Jail provides comprehensive medical, dental, and mental health care to all inmates, ensuring access to necessary treatment while in custody. Medical services are delivered by licensed healthcare professionals who evaluate, diagnose, and treat both routine and urgent health concerns. Inmates receive medical screening at intake and may request care at any time through established procedures. The medical team coordinates closely with outside providers when specialized care or hospitalization is required, ensuring continuity of care while maintaining facility security and safety.

The Transportation Bureau of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for safely and securely transporting inmates to court appearances, medical appointments, and other required locations. The bureau also manages a video arraignment program that allows hearings to be conducted remotely, improving efficiency and safety. Staff complete thousands of inmate transports each year while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and security.

The Support Services Division provides essential programs and services that assist in the supervision, rehabilitation, and daily care of inmates within the Utah County Jail. The division focuses on accountability, skill development, and community reintegration while supporting the overall safety and efficiency of jail operations.

The GPS Monitoring Program allows approved inmates to serve their sentence outside secure confinement while tracked by ankle monitor 24/7. Participants must follow strict rules, maintain employment, and attend weekly programming. Deputies supervise compliance through home visits and testing. Fees and forms must be completed before orientation.

The Work Diversion Program allows eligible inmates to complete supervised community work projects instead of jail time. Participants keep their regular jobs and perform public service projects such as trash removal, landscaping, and event cleanup. Deputies oversee performance, and noncompliance results in removal. The program promotes accountability and community service.

The Jail Industries Program enables inmates to work for private businesses while serving their sentence. Inmates earn local wages, develop job skills, and contribute to victim restitution and jail costs. Operating under federal certification, the program helps reduce recidivism and prepares participants for successful employment after release.

The 24/7 Sobriety Program allows individuals sentenced for DUI-related offenses to retain their driver’s license by completing twice-daily alcohol testing. Participants must follow strict rules prohibiting alcohol and drug use. Missed or failed tests result in immediate sanctions, while repeated violations may lead to removal from the program.

The Utah County Jail kitchen provides approximately 3,500 meals a day. These meals are prepared by inmates under the direction of 9 full time and three part time staff. The kitchen provides meals to:
