Special Victims Unit


The Utah County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) was created for the purpose of enforcing, investigating, and prosecuting violations of the laws of the State of Utah relating to the sexual assault of adults, children, and serious physical abuse or homicide of children. The Special Victims Unit also assists in the short-term assessment of child abuse cases in coordination with the Division of Child and Family Services and the Utah County Children’s Justice Center. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit is dedicated and committed to serving the citizens of Utah County.

Utah County Sheriff’s Office detectives who are assigned to the Special Victims Unit receive specialized training which include both adult and child sexual abuse, rape, sexual assault, forensic computer and cell phone evaluations, physical abuse, child forensic interviewing and other crimes against people. The Special Victims Unit utilizes multiple resources and technology to perform a thorough investigation of all assigned cases.

Internet Crimes Against Children

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) works with Utah State Attorney General’s Office as a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. As members of this task force, SVU detectives receive specialized training to locate, apprehend, and retrieve the evidence required for the successful prosecution of online child predators. Proactive operations are regularly conducted for this purpose.
