Special Enforcement Team
The Utah County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team (SET) is part of the Investigations Bureau of the Sheriff’s Office and works closely with Utah County Major Crimes, Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies. This is a proactive unit whose primary duty is narcotic investigations. Their other assignments include dangerous fugitive apprehensions, locating and apprehending suspects wanted for questioning by other agencies and assisting them with criminal investigations. Special Enforcement Detectives concentrate on the street level crimes but have participated in investigations for homicides, car theft rings, shootings, Federal and State wiretaps, property crimes and Drug Trafficking Organizations (Drug Cartels).
The SET Team’s proactive approach to crime is done through surveillance of known criminals, writing and serving search warrants, working with a network of informants, acting upon tips of drug activity or other criminal offenses, obtaining information through interviews with jail inmates, providing information about criminals to Patrol officers, and using technology to identify, track and apprehend criminals.
The SET Team is also proactive through education. SET Detectives have taught classes about narcotics and forensic evidence at UVU, church groups, schools and other organizations. The purpose is to educate parents and youth about narcotics and the effects they have on society.
